The Motorola Atrix 4G, AND the LG Expo both had fingerprint scanners. Approx. 2 and 3 years ago, respectively. The LG's was on the home button, surrounded by a silver ring. But we can now sit back and watch Apple get all the credit for this "innovation" in the Tech media.

Could you imagine the hell other phone manufacturers would catch if the only physical differentiator between model years was a silver ring around the button. Think of last year's flagship Lumia or the Nexus 4 and imagine the articles that mere rumors of such a small design change would evoke.

Go back a bit. The success of the Pebble smartwatch on Kickstarter is what started all these other smartwatches rolling, including the rumors of the Apple smartwatch. The market did not react to a total rumor, they reacted to the the utter and massive success of the Pebble.
