Actually, according to everyone who knew Paul and was there at the time, the movie went very light on him and he was actually much worse in real life.

He was a horrible person. The rest of Queen hated him, as did Freddie after running to the press for money. The scene of the TV interview didn’t happen. They changed it because nobody wants to watch someone reading an article aloud.

I will say they did make Paul Prenter’s character a total flat villain, which was just kind of lazy. But, plenty of long dead people get that film treatment too. There were lots of similar complaints around David Schwimmer’s character in Band of Brothers. On some level though, these movies aren’t about accurately…
