I told my wife this very same thing when Mitch McConnell and his wife were yelled at in a restaurant. I’ve never tried any of their sandwiches but their baked goods are lackluster for sure. They’re always too much in some dimension. Too dry, too sweet, too oily, etc. They look great but they taste absolutely blah. I’d rather make my own or go without.

I don’t know if I would call him a charlatan, per se, but I will say that he’s absolutely tone deaf and clueless about the many, many factors (both societal and individual) that affect nutrition and obesity.
