Incorrect. He admitted to procuring quaaludes, a popular recreational drug, to give to women he was interested in. There was no determination whether any of the women were given drugs without their knowledge or consent, nor was it established whether any women were impaired to the point of being unable to give consent

Let me get this straight: I’m concerned over the concept that a citizen can be judged guilty by the media and the general public without that citizen ever getting due process of law, and you describe that as “butthurt”? I’m not sure how that even remotely applies. Do you understand why the due process clause exists?

I was gonna make a yomama joke as well. GMTA.

Accusations are not proof. Did the Salem Witch Trials teach us nothing? Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, period. I believe nothing, one way OR the other, until there has been a due process of law.

From starshipvelcro, above:

Wait, we’re at “repeating a joke you heard” as an actionable copyright violation now? You know, that thing that people have been doing for the entire history of human culture? A core part of human interaction? You do realize the phrase “Heard any good jokes lately?” is all about the common phenomenon of repeating

Thanks! I could use the hits, so I appreciate the kind words.

Interestingly, Sandler doesn’t do that this time. He’s playing the straightman in this role with the more outrageous comedic slots played by the co-stars, and his character is the “nerd loser turned hero through bizarre circumstance” archetype. It’s a Revenge of the Nerds formula, and the Sandler annoying antics are

It’s worth it. If you want to read a positive review, check out my blog post on it:

The endless parade of negativity around this movie is starting to feel like a product of groupthink and Designated Bash Target Syndrome (tm). I took a chance on it because I love the golden age of arcade classics, I lived that era and I am very much the target audience. I’m glad I did, because it’s nowhere near as bad

Don’t believe the critics, who have lined up to bash this movie as the designated target of the month. Hell, in this article the writer admits they haven’t even seen it and yet call it crap. It’s a fun movie, and I watched it in spite of Sandler and not because of him. He actually managed not to ruin it.

My review:

I won’t lie, it’s not a smart movie but it is fun. Very, very fun. And if you’re the right age to get all the easter eggs and references and are the target audience for the “outdated nerd saves the world and gets the girl” wish fulfillment fantasy it will rise above the often mediocre aspects and occasional awkward

If you’re interested in a more positive review, check out the one I wrote on kinja:

I get the feeling most people had the determination to hate the movie before they even saw it, based on Adam Sandler alone. And while I normally would agree, I saw this in spite of Sandler and LOVED it. My review is at:

If you don’t love Gremlins and Goonies, you have no soul and you are my eternal enemy.

I watched half that review last night and the movie tonight, and the review is wrong and the movie is awesome.

I only watched half the review because I got tired of hearing the guy rant and insult and bitch and moan without actually saying anything about the movie except variations of “it sucks”. He actually said

It’s not for those kids. It’s for us who spent our childhood in the arcades. And it’s a beautiul, beautiful thing.

Who wrote this? I just saw it tonight and I loved it, and I normally hate Adam Sandler movies. This is not a typical Sandler movie at all. Hell, it’s only partly a comedy. It’s mosrly a love letter to the golden era of arcades and wish fulfillment fantasy for the generation who loved them.

The graphics are BEAUTIFUL and there are so many characters you’ll recognize if you’re an old arcade gamer. It’s a pure love letter to the arcade generation and the game graphics alone are worth the price of admission but you’ll find a lot more to love if you’re a fan of that golden era of arcade gaming.
