No, the removal of legacy characters definitely has something to do with being regarded as shit. Its not the whole of it, but taking fan-favorite characters, and basically tarnishing them to put their replacements on a pedestal definitely was a bad look for quite a few readers.

The way they both mock, subvert but also transcend genre cliches is astonishing. One minute you’re laughing at the obvious cliche and then it bowls you over by taking it to a place you never expected while posing a real existential question.

That’s what I really love about the show- the story structures and writing is just so damn good! They made a story about a sentient pickle way better than most of the action movies released in the last 5 years.
