Well it's the criminal underworld, it isn't really full of women. But Skyler fucks Ted, she's hilarious conning the IRS guy. She gets one of the very best episodes and lines ever 51 "For the cancer to come back". Yes it's all in reaction to Walt but that's the whole show, I'd say the clockwork universe FYC explains

Yes sure it's not the writing in Breaking Bad. Aside from a couple of scenes in the pilot Skyler is pretty much always doing the best she can in the circumstances.

See that's the thing about the poor writing, it's clearly designed (by the creative team) to get Piper in trouble with the inmates but nothing before or after with Larry really does anything with it. I mean were he doing it as revenge he'd basically be a monster and the show just treats him as slightly pathetic comic

Absolutely, the way the radio interview is shot and cut, there's no malice in what Larry does, just complete and utter stupidity.

I don't think "most" of the hate is misogynist, but there's always going to be some assholes, that's the fans though, the writing for Skyler is never sexist but Larry seems to edge in to the bumbling/stupid man-child persona too often.

I mean fun spoiler in the sense that any time spent with him means less time spent in the prison where all the entertaining (to the audience) things happening. Looks like I need to finish season 2 anyway.

I'd argue the underlying impetus is the same.

I've only seen season 1 and the first ep of season 2 but Larry seems an integral part of Piper's previous life, which as she is in prison, and so far, wants to get back to it makes Larry and Polly and her family still completely integral. I find it interesting that you said "FAR worse" but then talked about what was

Always nice to see a lawyer get fucking lawyered.

I found that radio show decision to be really really shitty writing. I don't care how middle class and naive you are, you don't broadcast your spouses' beefs with prison inmates while said spouse is still in prison. No-one would be that dumb and the fact that real life Larry dealt with the situation so briliantly

Don't see how your description of Skyler's storyline belonging on OINTB invalidates the idea that both shows have their fare share of haters for the main character's partner.

Yeh it was a poor creative decision to go for the cliché character type over the truth.

Exactly. The hate is bizarre, but then so was the Skyler hate. Of course they both share the thankless role of "fun-spoiler" and far too many people lack the patience for such characters.

Oh she was yeh, and I think Larry is pretty similar on that score.

I assume they are just the OINTB version of Skyler haters.

Yeh I know, see my response to Douay.

Actually Breaking Bad wasn't one of the shows I had in mind with the comment about denigrating. It's placing here and at 2nd place in the Best of List at Christmas makes sense with the AV Club's attitude toward dark, badass male anti-heroes, even a show like BB which transcends that concept suffers for it and shows

Sure, and I can get behind that somewhat but it seems to involve denigrating the other shows.

I wouldn't go that far, but there's a concerted effort to praise non badass male antihero shows over ones that feature that type of protagonist and the reasoning behind that doesn't make much sense. Especially when stuff like True Detective proves it's not an inherently worn out concept.

Say one thing for Joe Abercrombie, says he knows how to write a great turn of phrase.
