As someone that lives in the area, it is commonly the US/Canada border, or the New York/Canada border.  Rarely do I ever hear the Ontario/New York or Ontario/US border.

Most of New York (land wise) just uses New York to mean New York State. New York City-folk use “New York State” like everyone else is going to get confused.

This makes the owners at least as qualified to be foreign policy experts as Sarah Palin!

Since we in New York use “New York State” to refer to things that aren’t New York City, and most Americans (and the people not in Ontario or Quebec) generally think of the City and not the State first, and couldn’t tell you the names or locations of Canadian provinces, this is just how it has to be described.
