He was a comedian, albeit one that I never found particularly funny. He’s clearly joking in the one picture that I saw, and grabbing someone’s butt during a photo in the past sounds like a juvenile attempt at humor as well...it hardly seems like sexual predatory behavior, or some weird power trip.

it is not at all. queer people are held up as strange deviations from the norm and often used as exaggerated punchlines to tons of jokes. queer & trans people in Japan are frequently the target of shitty portrayals.

To me, it adds to the whole dynamic that the brother actually left the country and his family. He wasn’t able to live as himself in Japan, but he was in Canada, where he was able to meet a man, fall in love, and get married, which is not possible in his home country (the marriage part, anyway).
