Don’t remind me of what I was like in middle school O.O
Wow. No offense, but that’s a true Team Nobody situation.
And I’m saying if the complaint is true, then it reads that way for good reason. It might or might not be true. If it is then, again, IMO, the fraternity should be legally punished. I believe it does have a responsibility to prevent its guests from entering a level of intoxication that might lead to alcohol poisoning,…
“The complaint alleges that Sigma Alpha Epsilon members continued to ply Jane Doe with booze although she was visibly drunk at the fraternity’s house party on Aug.12, 2016. It also alleges that the fraternity failed to provide security or supervision.”
IMO an organization that exists largely for the purpose of throwing parties should be responsible for the safety of people who attend those parties. I know it’s controversial.
That’s exactly why it’s a shitty example. Choose a relevant one next time.
Three of those articles are from more than five years ago and by authors who don’t write for the site anymore. The other one attacks an alleged rapist’s involvement in sex trafficking, not just someone hiring a sex worker.
In your words, this is Jezebel, not the Guardian.
Just looked him up in the site’s archives and in the last twenty or so posts about him, the only disparaging remark about his sex life was one of the writers calling him a “notorious philanderer” when he suggested that infidelity is romantic. Nothing about sex workers.
If it had been a male musician sleeping with female prostitutes, there wouldn’t even have been a Jez story about it.
NYC has relatively strict gun laws and also one of the lowest murder rates of any U.S. city. What's your point?
You’re right, but your premise is kind of undermined by both the study and your own comment. As you said, the study looked at 10,000 homicides between 2003 and 2014. But in 2010 alone, there were more than 3000 female homicide victims in the U.S., and that number has remained in approximately the same range across the…
Man, there's a lot to unpack in that headline.
Right but there are a lot more 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen Americans among the broader group “black and brown” than the group “white” — there is a greater diversity of immigration status among non-white Americans than there is among white Americans. But that’s not really my main point.
Read my response to the other person who complained about this
Sure, but I don’t think that the differences in experience between different ethnic groups within the group “white Americans” are as large as the differences in experience between different ethnic groups in the broader group “brown and black Americans”. For example, I don’t think my experience as a 6th-generation…
I mean... True? But that doesn’t really change what I said, does it? White people are one race encompassing multiple ethnic groups; “black and brown people” is just a catch-all term for multiple races and multiple ethnic groups. What I said is still true — there’s high representation of black people, Asian people, and…
But it’s not primarily filled with one race...? Not all black and brown people are a single ethnic group. And like I said, I don’t see one ethnic group holding a majority here, though black developers may be the single largest group. It’s a plurality rather than a majority. Other U.S. game dev conferences often have…
Those statements are not contradictory IMO. If there’s a greater variety of ethnic backgrounds than there is at other game conferences — which appears to be the case, based on the pictures; black developers seem to be the largest group, but it seems like no one ethnic group holds a solid majority at the conference,…
