Ugh I know, right? How dare they announce DLC when they only have a measly 74 characters in the game. And 100 stages. And 800 music tracks. Disgusting.

Couple of factors here make the difference - I’d be all for tarring with the same brush, it’s an easy approach, but I get where fans are coming from.

It make sense when Nintendo goes out of their way to make a game everyone is already satisfied with before throwing on extra content, especially when that content is just a character and not a major story or aspect of the game.

To be fair to nintendo though, their last nintendo direct they said that the game had gone to the printers as it were, and that they were now moving onto looking at what the DLC would be, and that while they didnt know what it was the game itself is actually finished.

Nintendo doesn’t release Day 1 DLC and their DLC, such as a Persona 5 crossover, tends to be pretty hype. Not only that, they already said there would be 5 DLC by 2020 so yeah.

The difference is that Nintendo made it crystal clear how long it takes to make each character, meaning the “couldn’t they have included it in the game” argument is easily answered with “no, not unless you want it delayed by a number of months while the new character and stage are QA tested against every other…
