Honestly I'm a total conspiracy theorist, and I believe this was all just a ruse for publicity, I dont think they intended for it to become this out of hand but they still gain fame and are a current hot topic.

Obviously James and Seth are responsible for the hacking. They knew their movie was shit, they couldnt just depend on the hotness of Lizzy Caplan to carry the movie so they caused this scandal.
