It broke while fighting a guardian in Hyrule Castle. I remember it so vividly because it took me out of the moment. I was storming the castle, shining blade in hand, laying about and feeling truly unstoppable because my blade couldn’t break while fighting these creatures of Ganon.

I don’t think that matters. Let players throw out the entire weapon system if they want. I’ve stressed this point heavily before: given the circumstances surrounding obtaining it, you shouldn’t be able to get it until end game. That is not true. I have had the sword break while fighting baddies in Ganon’s castle. It really took me out of the moment, too. Heroically slashing through bad guys with my glowing, unbreakable sword...and then it broke.
