Thought this was really well done, definitely better than a C+. McKellan's performance was absolutely phenomenal, and the story was a poignant look at an aging icon making peace with past regrets.

Sinestro has been surprisingly good.
The Red Robin book pre-Nu 52 was damn good, one of my favorites of that period. A real shame to have that character's history wiped clean.
It's pretty crazy to think how many times Superman's origin was re-booted in the years prior to New 52, only for the slate to be wiped clean yet again shortly thereafter.
Fables finally picked up steam in the last story-arc or two. But man, the Babes in Toyland story was pretty dire and seemed to go on *forever.*
I guess I'm in the minority, but I really liked all of Jack of Fables. It was consistently fun at a time when the main Fables book was really starting to go downhill. Loved the humor and weird sci-fi/fantasy elements.
It was pretty excellent. I really miss that Zatanna book.
I think you guys are underrating Fabok. His Batman/Detective stuff was phenomenal. Yes, he sort of fits into a certain DC house-style, but he's an amazing talent.
I think you have it right that the console industry is at a major crossroads, but also think it's reductive to blame the issues on feeding nostalgia or catering only to hardcore gamers. I think there is a general nostalgia for the 8, 16 bit, and early 32 bit days when new franchises and new gaming concepts seemed to…
Just want to say that your rando spitballs digression was the best thing I've read on the AV Club in years.
Amazing finale - I'm pretty much speechless. Two random thoughts: a.) can Wynn Duffy become the villain version of Munch and just keep popping up on various TV shows for years to come?, b.) how badass would a Harlan County series be -? Could be a mix of one-off stories and a myth-arc about Loretta's rise to power.
Yeah, it's definitely not an apples-to-apples comparison. Guess my point was just that Justified is, quality-wise, right up there - it's just a different sort of show, but no less worthy of acclaim.
This is honestly one of my favorite shows ever. And in terms of modern TV dramas, I put it up there with the Breaking Bads of the world. Think about it this way: what other show has had *this* many great characters, both ones central to the story and along the fringes (and 100% iconic characters in Raylan, Boyd, Ava,…
It's not just an aging-out-of-the-demo thing, at least for those of us who remember the MTV awards shows of the 90's. MTV of that era was cool, edgy, slightly dangerous, rock n' roll. Today's MTV: corporate shills who pander ceaselessly to a narrow teen girl demo, with awards determined by whatever the parent company…
Just came back from seeing the movie, and thought it was pretty fantastic. Definitely more in A-/A range for me. Incredible sense of tension and a super trippy, ominous atmosphere. Some good twists, and three great central performances. If you like good, cerebral sci-fi, this is a total must-see.
Best monthly comic going.
Given how HHH and Stephanie first became an in-story item, it's not that far-fetched that they'd align with a guy like Kane.
It might have been an 800 number. Suffice it to say, I remember it was an easy one to accidentally dial "911" from.
This was also my absolute dream as a kid, so reading this gave me a giant rush of nostalgia. I think it was for this - but it might have been Nick Takes Over Your School - where one year they had ads saying that the way to win was to be the ninth caller of this 900 number that would flash on-screen during commercials.…
I think HHH vs. Sting is a way better first match for Sting than vs. Taker. Sting is the consummate good guy, so why wouldn't you want him against the consummate heel in Triple H. Main problem is that HHH has all but forgotten how to be a true heel. Hopefully he is cowardly, begs off, freaks out when Sting hulks up,…
