my wages have increased at a rate greater than inflation because I offer a service that has a value that has increased greater than inflation. If someone makes less over time, measured against inflation, maybe they do not offer a service worth being paid more.

for clarification, bureau of labor and statistics has ~45 million us citizen living beneath the poverty level and ~3 million us citizens making more than $100K.
