I am in the process of claiming Canadian citizenship through descent (my mom is Canadian born and immigrated to the US) for my son and I. Therefore, I am also claiming Justin Trudeau as my leader. As far as I’m concerned, I went straight from Obama to Trudeau.

This was quite emotional for all of us queer Canadians, especially those of us old enough to remember the 24/7 fear of being found out. He’s not perfect but our leader is doing a pretty good job so far. Also, to our American friends, our ice wall is almost done, so see you next summer suckers!!

As a very proud Canadian, I can tell you this. Not everyone is 100% behind Trudeau. But at times like this, when I see him taking steps that *nobody* has ever bothered to take before? Well, I can get behind that.

The CBC had a piece on the radio about the residential school apology which included one on one apologies to individuals. I was legit ugly crying on my drive home. Trudeau is not perfect and could do better in some areas but these apologies/settlements are definitely a step in the right direction.

I`m not a Trudeau lover by any stretch of the imagination, but that would be a resounding “fuck no!” from me!
