Well, this just grinds my gears. I always check to see if the illustration is a Jim Cooke masterpiece when I read a post. Why does everything have to change?????????

It’s still pretty damning that she says she didn’t use high pressure sales technique and then follows up that she would help people get loans or sell possessions to afford the $2,000 courses.

Hey, it’s a late little as a response, but I think I put my finger on why Vicente’s response irritated me. Like I said, all these folks did blow the whistle, and even if it was somewhat self-serving, it still matters that they took the risks of doing so. What bothers me is seeing in Seduced just how complicit Vicente

Actually, I felt like the CBC podcast didn’t quite do enough to press Edmondson about her complicity. The host did ask those questions a few times—the sanctifying of gaslighting, the money she made, how exploitative she was as a boss (and how exploitative the MLM structure is, in general), the fact that she recruited

Yeah, agreed. Mark sounded really anguished at that moment—although I did notice that when Bonnie said, “I’m okay now,” his response was, “Yeah, but I’m not.” It’s not entirely about you, bro! That said, I don’t think that Sarah and Mark are narcissists per se. Self-absorbed and self-centered, sure, but Allison Mack

I just noticed the thing with the comments, too. Also, what happens to Magary now? He just posted something on GEN where he’s column-izing now that I appreciated reading, but also now reads as maybe a mea culpa for staying on at Deadspin? I don’t blame him—the poor guy almost died earlier this year, this is probably

Oh yikes! That sounds absolutely gnarly. I bet they never made that mistake again--it only takes once.

Thanks for the feedback. I just took a look at it after seeing your comment—no nut. We’re very careful about never putting oils or fats down the drain, so I guess there’ll be no telling what’s causing this until we dismantle it. Sigh.

You’re right, I should probably just get the plumber in to take a look at it. I have to admit, I emitted a grim chuckle when you mentioned getting channel-lock pliers or a replacement kit at the hardware store—one of the reasons why people here never do their own repairs (in addition to the labor being so cheap) is

Ack! Please help, Jolie! Okay, so I have a clogged drain in my kitchen sink. The setup is a PVC pipe for the S-bend that leads to metal piping. I’ve cleared many a clogged drain before with plungers, baking soda and vinegar, or the snake, so it’s not like this is unfamiliar territory for me. But here’s the catch: I’m

Saidiya Hartman is one of my favorite thinkers and scholars of all time. If you haven’t read Scenes of Subjection or Lose Your Mother yet, go do so, stat!

Me too! That would be a twist.

I went with my husband to the mall today. He got a new watch because it was 30% off. He already has several watches. I wandered over to one of the makeup counters and bought two nail polishes, but I almost didn’t get the one I liked most because the lady behind the counter told me it was out of stock after spending

So true. Skyler’s a bookkeeper—by training and temperament she would be inclined to have every action, well, accounted for. Kim is a lawyer, which means knowledge is always a stretchable thing. And as you said, she’s slightly younger than every other character we’re talking about, and a lot less personally encumbered.

That’s fair enough—it certainly allows Kim to preserve her dignity in ways that Skyler wasn’t able to. But Kim also has a much easier out than Skyler ever did. She can always break up with Jimmy and refuse to associate with him; paradoxically, I think this actually makes it easier for her to go easier on Jimmy. For

I actually think it will take far longer to build the superlab. Remember that the war between Gus and the cartel in BB is because Gus starts to manufacture his own product in competition with them and they’re demanding his formula and his cook. Also, BCS is currently in 2004 and the events of the superlab in BB are

I noticed that, too! Also, Walt is all, “yeah, I’ve seen ‘White Heat’ but what’s the point?”

It could go either way! I always assumed that Nacho was still alive by the time of BB, but you’re right, that mixing of tenses means the powers that be in the writers’ room could take it in either direction. Saul keeps saying he’s a friend of the cartel in that scene and clearly seems terrified of being killed, so

Thanks! Hire me, AV Club!

Incidentally, there’s a nice little call-out to the Cinnabon flash-forwards in this episode. In the season 3 premiere, Gene talks himself into potential trouble by telling the shoplifter to call a lawyer after he notices that the kid was arrested without being Mirandized. How does Kim snag such a good deal for her
