Look at it this way. The reason she got kicked off the team was because of the papparazzi, which exist to perpetuate a celebrity-obsessed culture and media and maybe without them, we as a society would be forced to focus more on important problems like poverty, racism, etc. I would say this is in fact a social

But... you’re spending your limited amounts of attention arguing with strangers about it. You could have been spending your time doing a myriad of other things to make the world a better place. Instead you’re here, making a case for how limited your bandwidth is.

Sympathy is not a zero sum game. You can feel bad for an innocent kid’s childhood getting fucked up by weirdos with cameras, and also feel bad about starving families, racism, broken education systems, etc.

That is a great and painful article.

I read a lot at The Root which is a huge part of why I can smell the crap now.

A real turning point for me was when I stopped commenting at The Root. Not sure if I commented very much before I realized my voice wasn’t needed in their conversations, but it was a definite switch-flip.

You can just shorten that to “I have no human sympathy”. The kid gets kicked off her grade 4 soccer team because of papparazzi, that’s simply wrong. She’ll never get to do that again. Why accept that situation ? Just because you’re too lazy to care.

It’s a bit disingenuous to say that Elizabeth and Phillip are married to “protect their bloodline.” It’s far from the truth. No one wanted them to get married. He wasn’t considered good enough for the future queen of England.

Maybe it’s loyalty but he wasn’t exactly shy of criticising his brother pretty seriously during the interview, maybe it’s because if he said it was William the fact he’s the heir and far more publicly popular now means the country would take his side and attack the Sussexes even more and he doesn’t feel it’s worth it,

Prince Philip’s sister was literally married to a Nazi. Queen Elizabeth’s disgraced uncle and his wife were Nazi sympathizers.”

There is a law now that they can’t “lie in wait” for celebrity kids, so hopefully that has helped.   I saw an interview with her and she gave all the credit for Halle Berry, who organized celebrities to lobby for this change.

Hold on so your example of why the UK isn’t any different is from 1974... nearly fifty years ago when guns were as easy to get as in the US. And both examples you list involve cases where they had strong security that failed to stop either event.

“Lol. I love it when foreigners tell me how dangerous my country is.”

Except it’s not “The Firm” who pay for the protection they were getting and expecting to continue, it’s British taxpayers like me who they expect to foot the bill. Other minor royals who feel they need security but don’t get it paid by the public? Oh they have jobs and pay for it themselves

And they were entitled to that protection... as long as they were working royals. They don’t get to pick and choose which bits they like and which bits they don’t nor expect all the perks like taxpayer-funded guarded compounds, private estates, and police guards if they aren’t willing to do the little royals are

I’ll give it two, maybe three days before the coverage over here goes from sympathy to ignoring the more serious allegations to talk entirely about the mistruths spoken and how she’s “out to get the Queen”.

This.

“I apologize if my actions made woman #1 or #2 uncomfortable in some way, but every woman after #3 is a lying bitch.”

Welp, that 3 seconds when he made a half-assed attempt at feigning contrition was fun, but now it’s back to “Women be lyin’!” mode.

Her kids aren’t allowed to eat carbs you silly bear.

Our realtor was very adamant about it. She acknowledged it sounded crazy, but said it worked. More of a superstition thing for her.

This one simple trick could have made you thousands, but now you’ll never know!
