Funny how security is a concern now when a book publishing the White House’s dirty laundry is coming out. I know someone who works in the White House and apparently the administration was so unprepared that they did not have any computers after the inauguration so people were working on their personal, unsecured

It’s the first stop on their journey back to 1957!

panic and insecurity?

It’s also completely ridiculous because OBVIOUSLY a job like this extends into your home life all the damn time. They aren’t allowed to have any personal-life things happen during the work day, but you know they’re expected to be ready to work literally whenever during their personal time. It’s garbage.

I’m 100% down for this transportation. Let me know when it’s time.

My cousin worked at a top job like this under Obama, and already barely got to see his family. Not only are there emergencies that could be a problem (although, I’m sure there will be a system for that someone figures out), this is literally going to be just another thing that makes it harder for anyone with a family

In the DC area, it is common that there are places in the US Gov’t (DoD/intel sites) that you cannot take your personal cell phone in for security reasons. I am surprised that the White House allowed personal cell phones in the first place. I would imagine most either have an encrypted cell phone or a desk phone that

Did anyone say this was a smart idea (aside from Trump and Kelly)?

One of the companies I do work for has about 100 employees, each with their own desk phone, and not one but two receptionists. I don’t know what they do all day. Actually come to think of it I couldn’t name the office manager, so one of them probably fulfills that role too.

In my experience, the people hovering behind desks are the ones instituting the no-personal-calls policy, not the ones violating it. Also policies like this are some micromanaging bullshit – if your employees need to have their phones literally confiscated in order to get their work done, then your problem isn’t

You will be branded as disloyal for caring more about your family than work, charged with theft (of company time) and promptly burned at the stake. Your charred skull will be hung in the lobby, as a warning to others

If I had to guess, they’ll set up a phone line that takes a message, prints it out, and hands it to the parent in question. That’s just a guess, though.

Many places have this rule in place. There is an emergency number set up that family members can call. Also, yeah, they can use business phones if provided.

i’m getting some mileage out of this today...

I love that the moron in charge and Fox trot out this completely meaningless and unverifiable, “see? companies are giving out bonuses!” thing. As though bonuses didn’t exist before or after the bullshit tax cut. As if that’s any kind of metric of economic health. “Someone somewhere got a bonus, y’all! Thanks glorious

I actually emailed the author of this article about the lack of pushback. Specifically, the subjects of the article gave concrete examples of the reasons they were disappointed with Trump:

You’re projecting why people voted for Trump.

I mean, you are 100% right about this. This romanticized idea of this kind of salt-of-the-earth, downhome simple country folk who just want stability and for America to be Great Again is just such total bullshit. Maybe there are a few of those types left out there, somewhere, but the majority of rural/rust belt Trump

thanks man, good advice. i will not further attempt to pay my rent.

Here’s the reality of survival under capitalism: I applied for upwards of 100 jobs after I graduated from college with a journalism degree. I couldn’t even get a seasonal cashier position at the mall. That’s how I ended up in marketing. Do I feel bad about it? Sure, it’s not what I’d hoped for. But I’m not $12,000 in
