Taking responsibility for and recognizing the reason for failures, providing refunds for those who request them, delivering on backer rewards... this sounds like the right way for a kickstarter project to die, as sad as it may be for those involved. Bravo.

But isn't it fair to say that in order to "get your ass to Mars" you have to first get the launch vehicle funded and realized? Can we blame them for pushing ahead without any further guarantees or funding for longer term missions for this platform?

I LOVE this logic- our ancestors millions of ears ago didn't wear shoes to run so why should we? Shoes aren't natural!!! Yeah, neither are eye glasses, we should be more natural and give those up.

The modern world has somehow decided to equate death with failure. When someone dies of cancer, we say that "they lost the battle". Not a healthy view, any way you slice it.

Do they really these days? I know in the Honeycomb era there were some major issues, but it seems that most of those have been addressed in the last year or two. Personally, we just sold our iPad and switched to a Nexus 7, and are very happy with it. Haven't had any problems with apps

No. Nope. Nuh-uh. Light doesn't go faster. The only way to win in a race with light is to *cheat*. That's what a warp drive does. You bend the race track (space and time) so you have a shortcut and beat light to the finish.

I probably say the words in my head when I'm sitting down to read, or reading a blog, but once I get absorbed in a good book, it's just sort of images flashing in my brain. I see what's happening as I read, rather than consciously reading and sounding out each word. I figured it was the same for everyone.

How would you define "valid science" other than published in a peer reviewed journal? It may or may not ultimately turn out to be correct, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the science.
