I was not very clear: the initial “couple” of years really equals 3 or 4 in my book. That’s my Alfa math book in case you are wondering. Sure, the 5th or 5th MY won’t be Corolla-reliable, but hopefully fewer nasty surprises in the middle of a Sunday drive.

Seems like the price is comparable to the market, but a year or two younger examples with similar miles can be had at around $55k. I am a big believer in avoiding the first couple of years of a new model, this is well into No Dice territory.

Seems like I-Pace and Taycan are already quite good, even compared to currently-available ICE vehicles...

Not sure I like what I am seeing/hearing about the Focus RS’s reliability though!

good to hear from someone who actually owned one. I get that car advice is difficult to give, but the Focus RS definitely seemed to be a car that was too good to be true...

PDK is still “MEH” at best for a daily-driven non-sports-car.  IMO either go manual for involvement or torque converter for smoothness.

I agree (my family is on our 3rd Sienna in 10 years because I like new cars, so prob the exception).  The fact that Pathfinders sell about as many a year as Siennas just makes me laugh in despair. The Pathfinder is the worst POS modern vehicle I have ever driven, worse in every way compared to the Sienna, yet people…

I got a new 2017 340i xDrive manual back in 2017, MSRP was $62k ish, got $9k off. I sold that numb pos a year later for $40-something with 5k on the odo. So I think used BMWs, especially common models like the X3M, can go for closer to 30% off a year later.

Especially if people drove their new cars like I do ... I don’t trust other people’s sloppy seconds.

Yes! People rip the Evora for things that are easy to fix — interior bits, HP/speed.
 

After being disappointed by how numb and generic the 718 felt, I agree that modern reviewers don’t seem to be all that into driving, handling, etc. Too many just give the 718 glowing “handling” comments because it’s a mid-engined Porsche. It’s actually boring AF on public roads. Even with a manual.

We did a road trip a couple of years ago through the Cabot Trail, 3 kids — 2 on boosters at outboard positions and one kid in the center. It worked well for us (ours is a 2017 GTS).
