I wonder.. Protect already does that, and Wide Guard should not protect pkmn from a single-target Z-Move. Yet, if you single-target a team using Wide Guard instead of using a Z-Move, you’ll get your hits. It is a trade off Game Freak might leave in (if not on purpose) because of that.. Mind games.

I would agree with your statement about cheaters cheating during battles.. but you don’t see these guys using laptops during a tournament.. or even the tournaments being about “who can breed the best pokemon faster”.
