Perhaps you do, but one need not.

Once again, he said he could wrench. HG in a Legacy/Outback is a big job but not too difficult. Assuming it’s as common as you do, it’s likely already been done anyway.
Mine went 140k with zero issues save a drunk in an F-150, but won’t argue HG issue. Eating oil won’t leave you stranded...
Oil is cheap, and he said he can wrench. The real problem with the GT is finding one. I also listed a Saab and a Volvo and you chose to attack Subie reliability? Perhaps you should do a little re-thinking.
Best: Legacy GT wagon. Better: used Outback Good: Saab 95 wagon. All will handle corners, kids, dogs, and bike well. And will be reasonably reliable and easily wrenched- can be found between $2k and $5k. V70 works here too.
If your range is inside 20 mi., battleship guns are great. Now, getting a battleship within 20 mi. isn’t cheap nor easily defended in most hot spots.
Yeah- every XT manual sold was driven by the original owner until it died , driven until it was killed by its original owner or, they both were killed/died together.
This guy gets it
Transmissions in these were the weak link, I put two in mine over 170k. Other than that, totally bomber.
The way to go here is a 6.0 or 6.2 GM V8 and trans swap. More than doubles HP and torques while shedding 150# AND it gets better MPG.
4 of the top 10 longest lasting are essentially the same vehicle.
Which is why this battle car thing is stupid, you can buy an actual war wagon...
They’re actually in Delta Force and Three Kings. But yes, the one pictured above is from Megaforce.
