This is the perfect answer. Honestly he could also bump up to an M3/M4 if he wants space for a car seat as well. 

Get an E92 for $20k. Add $20k of go faster bits to it (maybe some new bearings too). It’s already known for being a good track car that you can drive on the road and prices are very good right now.

Slightly used M240 is the proper answer to this question. Ideally it would be an M2, but if you can’t find one in your budget go M240 with some upgrade.
