You’re talking a big difference in price but I’d get a Genesis.
As somebody who went from a sport sedan (G37) to a GTI, this is tough. I love the GTI, but I would think the Genesis would still be a nicer overall car. That, RWD, and uniqueness gives the slight edge to the Genesis for me. But it is more expensive and not as mod friendly, so you can’t really go wrong - the Mk7 is…
GTI
Kahn wanted Genesis and so should you!
The GTI is known to be super responsive to tuning and small modifications, that realm might not be completely discovered yet on the Genesis (I’m just not sure). And even though you can have a ~300hp hot hatch for under the base price of the G70, my vote is still the Genesis. It looks so great in person and the…
I vote Genesis. I kinda love Hyundai though. Can’t beat that damn warranty.
Genesis probably has a more competitive warranty. And it’ll be more of a conversation starter.
You must get the Genesis. You’ll have a unicorn!
Ha! This is my exact predicament including the two cars I want. I thought I was the only one cross shopping a manual GTI and a manual G70.
I wish I could help but....that’s why it’s a predicament. I’m interested in the results though.
I vote Genesis because you’ve already experienced a GTI.
Get the GTI, the Genesis will depreciate at rate that makes used CLA Mercedes reasonable.
I have a 2016 3-door PP LP S GTI. Unless you live outside of the USA you cannot have the exact GTI you have posted (a 3-door MK7.5).
In a similar position, I ended up with a Honda Accord 2.0t sport with the manual. Very roomy backseat if that is of interest, and generally sharper than i expected. Very happy with that choice. But if its just the two you have named, I have to lean GTI.
GTIs are great but you’ve had one. The Genesis is unique. I say go Genesis.
These are fundamentally different cars, but I like that you’re cross-shopping them. I vote for the Genesis because it’s RWD.
Genesis
And how many will be driven further than the trailer they’re going to be sitting on for the next 20 years?
More than a few automotive wrap specialists can pad their bank accounts with this trend.
I think Torch is in the wrong; he really shouldn’t rag on these guys.
