I don't need a star on Gizmodo to validate my life or feel good about myself. But whatever works for you, I guess.

Yes, but the developed world is moving further away from that. More and more people are going to college. Trying to redevelop the high school graduate workforce is counterproductive.

Er, no one cares?

If you think people buy Apple products for raw computing power, you missed the point. The overall experience (i.e. build quality, design, software, ecosystem) is why people buy Apple. You have a certain definition of "quality," which is fine, but Apple users have a different one, and it works for them.

I think it's very easy spot and avoid sites that are obviously made for piracy, like Megaupload, RapidShare, Fileserve, and Filesonic. There are plenty of credible hosts (i.e. Dropbox, as many have already mentioned).

Name calling... yeah, this is when I leave the conversation.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Your second sentence is not a sentence. Who said anything about online classes?

Yes, because New Zealand is in the USA...

Ha, and you need to stop acting like you have no idea your comment was a passive aggressive insult. "You guys" are such trolls.

You've talked about width but have completely disregarded height for some reason. Have you forgotten about the notification shade?

Have you ever used an iPhone browser before? It in fact demands LESS zooming and panning than my gigantic Galaxy Nexus, even in landscape mode. iPhone Safari automatically detects the body text of a webpage (and very accurately, too) and enlarges the font so it is easily readable without zooming in and distorting the

The thumb thing was only ridiculed because a) it criticized Android and b) it was posted by Jesus Diaz. Neither of which are valid reasons. But who needs reasons when you have Android, right?

Are you aware that virtually every Android smartphone now has a 4.3" or larger display? That's quite a big difference from 3.7". The argument about one-handed use has always been about >4.3" displays, so way to introduce an irrelevant anecdote.

While Steve Jobs may have liked a 3.5" display, you seem to be ignoring history. In 2007, what phone had a larger display than the iPhone? In fact, I seem to recall early Apple haters criticizing the iPhone (and its display) for being too big.

Wow, there's a LOT of hateful passion in the comments below. FYI, it makes you look as stupid as the people quoted in the article.

The iPhone is not difficult to type on even in portrait mode. It's not as easy as my Galaxy Nexus for obvious reasons, but it's surprisingly close.

Ads were extremely racist 60+ years ago. But hey, it was effective (or perceived as effective) for their white market!

I'm not sure I see that she feels superior for owning Apple products. It seems more like you feel superior for NOT owning Apple products. (Which is a very common attitude among tech commenters, so you're not alone, at least. You have the company of Engadget readers.)

No, my point is that this type of advertising is only effective as long as our culture and society allows it to be. When people widely defend it as being effective, they are validating and perpetuating its effectiveness. It has nothing to do with the fact that (most) men are attracted to women. By that logic, we

I never said you we're condescending toward me. You were, however, being extremely condescending to your friend's girlfriend for failing to understand basic tech concepts. You seem to have deep contempt for anyone who isn't knowledgeable about tech.
