We have pictures of my mother in 1948 with her smash cake. For goodness’ sake, it’s just a cute tradition some people like.

I don’t really think they can, or want, to do better than this. They can’t gain readership by writing pieces that are thought-provoking, informative, or investigative anymore. So they go along with the lazy snark that will contradict itself week after week, because it gets clicks and comments.

I have had that exact scenario with roommates!

He passed on my 18th birthday. It became a weirdly reflective day for me, thinking of how much he had impacted my (and other childen’s) early life and learning, and what of that I still carried with me as I prepared to graduate high school. Still miss him.

I was pretty amazed at how okay they seemed to be about the Russian collusion stuff. Can you imagine what the pro-Trump crowd would have done had there been half of a whiff of those activities associated with Obama?

I mean..... middle class women/people can be in abusive relationships, too. I agree that all those willingly involved are culpable, but as a separate point, it’s probably not right to assume experiences of abuse victims are always based on socioeconomic status.

That’s great to know! I have worried about whether a doctor would let me just do this until I’m past menopause, so it’s nice to know that it’s possible! But no escape from some menopause symptoms, anyway, huh :) Thanks for the info!

I feel for you on the periods changing for the worse. I can’t say I’ve ever had super terrible periods (certainly not like endometriosis patients), but they’re always unpleasant, even disruptive, and they did seem to get more painful and worse for my mood every year. For about 8 years I’ve had a hormonal IUD, and I’m

I found that the bus drivers in Ireland were the kindest people to me that I’ve ever encountered. I was definitely displaying some tourist idiocy, but they all looked after me safely getting where I needed to go.

Eh, give me prose any day. I find little beauty in the line-by-line dialogue of a play. And maybe theater-oriented kids could do better with it, but students in my classes had nowhere near the maturity to read these aloud in a meaningful way.

I have nothing against dialogue, but those plays were SO very depressing and melodramatic. I’ve always enjoyed Shakespeare; I find those works way more relatable (and fun) than Salesman, Glass Menagerie, or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I also remember enjoying when we read A Raisin in the Sun in school. That at least had

We read several Tennessee Williams works as well as Death of a Salesman in high school and I hated them all enough that they made me write off theatre in general. I hated reading those plays; couldn’t stand the melodrama! Why did we read so many damn plays? Maybe now I’d enjoy their soap opera-ness, as you point out.

I’d guess that the daughter knew at minimum what brand the items were, and for the sake of showing images etc, could have found the specific items just searching online. It’s also entirely possible that she owns some of the same stuff (it sounds like they are pretty close and might share or shop for gear together).

When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, a friend from another school invited me to his school’s haunted house. I was pretty jazzed about it, but I was a pretty timid kid and could get scared pretty easily. Also, I had a heart condition that was triggered by jolts of adrenaline, such as might happen when suddenly scared. So...

Yes, we’re excited to browse there! Thanks, and I hope your headaches get resolved. How frustrating!

The Local! Ha, think I know where you went and will be there tomorrow myself to take my mom on a little birthday day trip.

I wanted one of these SO BAD

I saw that spicy coconut corn soup this week and def want to make it. Thanks for your confirmation!

I was admiring this massive, gorgeous beefsteak tomato a neighbor has been growing in front of their house for the past few weeks. Seems like it was the only one in their patch to grow nice and big, and I was so happy to see it starting to ripen....

I have to admit, I go into live-action Disney remakes with a strong bias against them, and I still really enjoyed the live-action Jungle Book.
