My hospital got rid of the nursery entirely, saying that it’s “better for babies and mothers” for baby to room with them 24/7. And also conveniently no longer needing several extra nurses to tend to the nursery.

OMFG Anesthesiologists should never been seen as a money maker. OMFG. I’m going to die of a rage stroke.
It’ll be ok. People always tell me (and my anxious brain) that it takes way more than I think it does to traumatize a kid. He’ll remember it as an adventure even if he is a handful for grandparents!
Ugh. That is seriously the worst. About 3 years ago I was a broke student, using bare bones college-issued insurance and developed uterine polyps for the umpteenth time. Doctors kept telling me I HAD to have them removed/biopsied. I kept telling them that my insurance wouldn’t cover it and I sure as heck didn’t have…
To this day, I’m stricken with envy by my mom’s week-long hospital stays. Meals in bed and highly trained professionals to help look after the newborn? Yes, please. I’ll never forget coming home with my second child, 36 hours after giving birth, to a screaming toddler, a sink full of dishes, and the laundry I’d…
The law must be new. This happened in California in 2011 and despite involving my HR advocate, the ultimate conclusion was that I was responsible. The real scam of it is that you’re just so exhausted from dealing with everything related to the illness, you just give up simply to have one less thing on your plate.
If this ever happens to me I’m charging visiting friends and family $5 each to hold my baby
Hate to admit this based on other people’s experiences on this thread...had a baby in March at a Naval hospital- the bill we received when all said and done was $5.95. Husband bought the “celebratory” dinner that I got for free as a new mom. That was it- and it was an emergency C-Section.
This is the biggest and most insidious scam of the entire system. The same happened to me daughter was in the PICU for several days after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.
Yup. They bunk baby with Mommy, claim it’s bonding, with zero regard to Mommy.
I realize they inflate the prices because something something insurance, but they have to understand how ridiculous it all seems to us consumers
Mine is 6 now and due to a complicated c-section we did not get skin to skin for several hours. She’s well adjusted, incredibly loving, smart as fuck, and so funny it hurts me. Trust me it will be ok.
C-section here. Trust, my baby was zero percent deprived. We didn’t skin to skin immediately after birth because I was being sewn up, but did do it immediately after I got in the room with him (maybe 30 minutes after birth). Kid then nursed immediately. In fact, he got great time just him and his dad before I came in.…
For comparison’s sake, my sister had a baby in March. They paid the equivalent of 35 dollars. And that was honestly just the cost of her husband also staying overnight because they live far away and couldn’t just drive home when they weren’t sure if they had gone in on a false alarm (they hadn’t).
First, for the sake of your sanity stay away from that stuff. Those posts always end up with the sanctimommies ruining everything and making everyone else weep. I had a c-section with my youngest. It was a traumatic, emergency kind of deal and I will spare you the rest- but I did not get to actually see the kid let…
oh my god i dont want to pay for donald trump’s rehab! i dont want him to trudge through a bureaucratic mess so he can receive...standard care from tired doctors... ok maybe actually i want to force donald trump to use my money for public care
Not to mention (which you did not) the moral implications of a few companies and their CEOs getting stinking rich off the misery, and even deaths, of others as they are turned down for coverage or fucked with severely.
That should be illegal. Straight up fucking illegal.
I had an emergency c-section 7 months ago. When I got my completely insane hospital bill that my insurance refused to cover one penny of (close to $130k). I was questioning why the anesthesia wasn’t covered. Turns out I had neglected to ask which group the anesthesiologist was in. Silly me, being wheeled into surgery…
This goes to show just how screwed up our health care/insurance system is in the U.S.
