If there were two decent Republican candidates and two Democrats on the ballot in a deeply conservative state, one of the Republicans should usually win with ranked choice. I think the result is more about the quality of Palin as a candidate than anything else.

Australia has used ranked choice voting in it’s national elections for more than half a century, and it is awesome. Even if it doesn’t cause a lot of major upsets in results, it allows voters to cast a vote for a candidate they care about the most, without wasting their vote. If that candidate fails, their second

Sadly I think the constitution is no longer the guiding principle for the Supreme Court. It is as partisan and divided as any other arm of government, but with life terms and no mandatory retirement.

Not true. Even in socialist Australia all students are expected to borrow at least a quarter of the cost of the degree, even if the rest is government funded. That is several tens of thousands, even for the cheapest degrees. I understand it is even worse in the UK.

Possibly, maybe, although Thomas won’t budge I bet. These judges were appointed for this specific purpose, not to make Republicans more electorally palatable in a mid-term cycle.

And a judge with a job for life is actually a good thing in general. What is bad is the politicians choosing extremist jurists and the senate confirming them.

I know it’s not likely until the US officially splits in two, but I would love to see Thomas on the bench when a state tries to bring back an interracial marriage ban.

They still have schools in Florida?

D), definitely.

So Peter Thiel, the major funder would actually be barred from the site? Assuming he is single that is, I could care less about his relationship status.

Kate Bush was (is) very private, and kept reneging on interviews and appearances, which made the US arm of her record company essentially stop all promotion, which is the reason why she was big in most places except the US.

People have been told to vote for decades to save or improve their rights. look how that turned out. However, I don’t think violence is the answer. The country is split in two politically - time to make it literal.

No Democratic president will ever be allowed to appoint a SC justice in the future. They set the precedent in Obama’s final year, and the current court is allowing the gerrymandering that means the Democrats will never again have 50 senators. So your question is moot.

This court has no interest in public opinion. No court should, for that matter.

Here’s my take on why conservatives are so terrified of trans kids and gender fluidity more generally.

George Clooney in From Dusk ‘Til Dawn for me. Not quite sure why the addition of blood spatter does it for me....

Or just don’t own a car. Drinking is much, much simpler then. Any extra grams from the alcohol are more than compensated by the extra steps, at least in my experience.

It’s KFC. Sometimes food.

They used to. Pretty sure that was one of the triggers of the Reformation.

Very true. However it is also true that the RC church is still very top down and the Pope can de-frock anyone, which makes his word law in effect. Of course a nominally liberal pope (nowhere near my definition of liberal, but not completely woman and homo hating) needs to tread a bit carefully or be knocked off.
