The fact that Harvard promoted her for purposes of showing they were hiring people from diverse backgrounds means there was actual damage from her actions—that is cultural appropriation at its worst, you’ve got Harvard claiming diversity in their staff by having this very white woman who was not in any way impacted…
What still gets me is that it was a sex tape. And a shitty one at that. To me (I admit I’m probably in the minority with this) if instead of a sex tape she was in a movie - not even a mainstream movie; even some low-budget indie flick - and she had a super-explicit sex scene that would be a world of difference.
I think it’s fair to say that if you use a sex tape to facilitate your way to fame it’s an indication there’s not a whole lot you won’t do to try to make it. It’s absolutely not elitist to expect that a consumer knows their own budget and what they can afford. The lender has the obligation to be truthful about the terms of a loan. Beyond that, it’s on the buyer make a financially sound decision.
A lender should have the responsibility, let alone the ethics to explain the real-life implications of the loan, including the probability that the loan will leave them under water in the final 24 months.
