Speculation is that Apple will open up the NFC to devs in the next iteration of iOS (in a year, basically). If/when an iOS8 jailbreak happens, I assure you it will open up then.

In my experience in Android, Swype has better word detection based on your swipe, but it's a little slower to react. SwiftKey has better next-word prediction and more customizability.
