Yeah, I’m with ya. This is a high water mark for Nintendo’s musical accomplishments.

You think that’s nuts, here, hold my tentacle.
It felt very much like a SNES RPG of old, which I liked. The ‘shallowness’ I refer to is mostly in its variety, or rather, lack of. Everything is a snowy environment, the soundtrack is simple piano melodies, and the spell/special FX aren’t really inspiring by any means.
I dug it. It won’t be in my top 30 RPGs of all time, but it was nostalgic in the right ways. My main complaint was that it was pretty shallow.
You have to pretend to be Makoto’s boyfriend too. Until the magical day when you actually are.
The number of folks coming out of the woodwork to defend incest is mind-boggling and super gross, but at least it is helpful in making lists of people whom you don’t want to accompany to a family reunion.
I love the design of the NES and JP/PAL SNES. Not so much the N64 and beyond, but right around then is when I run out of childhood nostalgia juice so I’m sure that has a little something to do with it.
I like Mystery Heroes because I have absolutely zero patience for some kid in Minnesota or wherever telling me what he thinks I should be playing; like, sorry BustaRhyyymz420 but if you think we need a third tank that badly (we don’t) then I guess you nominated yourself to make the switch.
And they’re totally worth it too. They are delicious.
Great article, fun look back at those nacent times of emulation. The stories behind the Earthbound (Zero) and Seiken Densetsu 3 translations could make for pretty great articles too.
But who would serve as the honeypot?
I came to say the same thing, this stuff is so incredibly evocative of Amano’s work, notably his stuff in the 80s, IMO.
Doesn’t need an Xbone controller, I have used a 360 controller and it works fine.
I don’t mind the fact that it’s Japanese trivia so much as it being wrong. One thing that is really getting my jimmies up is the weird pronunciation of names. I guess I’m not an expert but I did study the language for several years and can get around the country without a translator, and every time I hear “Ta-KAma-ki…
Tried the chocolate tip over the weekend on Golden Curry “hot.” Good stuff, thanks man.
I don’t know why the most shocking thing here isn’t the fact that we used to get 78+ page manuals with our RPGs.
I’ll wait til all the DLC comes out in a discount pack or something. Too many other games to play right now.
Amen to that. Wild ARMs 1-3 had some great soundtracks, used well. They were never the most popular titles, but that series is among my favorites of all time.
Chili dogs, you uncultured tit! How does anybody in CURRENT YEAR not know that Sonic the Motherfucking Hedgehog eats CHILI dogs, not goddamn hot dogs like some kind of “oh I’m being so bad right now” fad diet follower — NO. Sonic’s gotta go fast, and the only way he goes fast is by chomping down on the full-fat high…
This is actually the first thing I did. It’s fantastic this way. Sometimes I feel a little irked with the lack of a minimap because that means I also don’t have a compass, so I’m sometimes unsure of which way I’m headed after moving around in a fight in close quarters, so I am pulling up the big map a lot just to see…
