What they are doing is called "range gating". You essentially delay turning on your focal plane so that light that comes back too soon doesn't affect the image, you turn it on briefly, and then you turn it off so that light that comes back too late doesn't affect the image.

I've always wanted to see an alien get popped with a model '73 Winchester. Seriously. Combine sci fi and cowboys and I'm there.

To those concerned that the scale goes up to high. Take a deep breath, add a resistor, drop the last zero on all of the numbers. It will be ok.

My feeling is that Caprica was a project that collapsed under its own weight. A story is a ball of ideas which is put into motion, and some things are too big, fragile, or tenuous to be moved without breaking apart. Things like this are not successful stories.

@Zelyre: Let me know if you can get through the first one and I'll be impressed.

So after the last post about Bloodrayne movies I was thinking "well

@Snertly @Josh Wimmer @A Pimp Named DaveR @QuatlooMillionaire:

It is interesting that a previous article cites a study done in the '77 ([io9.com] in which Heinlein is categorized as "right wing" politically, however many of his books are dystopian type futures where the right wing has "won".

What a waste of life. A metal garbage can kicked down a staircase makes a more articulate and less offensive noise than what comes out of Beck's face continuously.

De Lancie is the man. To think his character Q was an unintended addition to the first TNG episode to expand Roddenberry's intended 1 hour series premier to the studio's desired 2 hour premier...

Did you test the battery life?

@MonkeyT: The thing that the external cameras provide is a near instantaneous capability of full aerodynamic state knowledge at time sampling rates much faster than the 1Hz of a normal gps or the 5Hz of an automation grade gps. Also with none of the drift issues of small IMUs and the shock sensitivity of a gryo INS.

@MonkeyT: To be fair, while the flight maneuvers are impressive this system uses 20 fixed position and calibrated cameras in a ring around the helicopter to make known otherwise unobservable flight control system states, allowing for a trivial control solution dependent on a degree of observability which can not be

So intense music and some artificial film grain on the video... slow take off and land...but what do 8 little rotors get over one bigger one, other than 8x the mechanical losses in the drive system...

Bullshit.

I agree with the last point made, WHY not just make a new military SF/space opera which isn't linked to BSG?

I really thought red would have done much better...

I don't know if I buy this right wing left wing stuff. That's really hard to generalize. I find that there are a lot of issues in the "standard package" for each the right and the left where they seem to have the opposite opinions than they should given the rest of their opinions on other issues in their "standard
