@wjbean: I'm thinking the reason why uniform spacing doesn't look as good has something to do with the spatial distribution of the photoreceptors in our eyes and some kind of aliasing, or maybe a diffraction phenomenon.

@wjbean: I think the non-uniformity is why it is easy on the eyes. pretty cool. If they could make color screens with the same kind of randomness in them they would look amazing.
