When I watched the first season, I did a double-take when one of the characters called another a “douchebag.” I didn’t think that phrase was used as a pejorative in the 80s. So I actually researched it. Douchebag came into fashion in the early aughts when it was used online and by TV comics like Jon Stewart, who

She’s awful, and I haven’t the slightest interest in defending her. But “architect” is a perfectly fine verb and is recognized as such by several dictionaries.

Michael Eric Dyson is a well respected scholar who has authored a number of books about black historical figures, including several in music and hip hop, Pac and Nas, to name two.

Silent Shout is The Knife’s best and most cohesive work. The Trentmoller remix of “We Share Our Mother’s Health” from that album is incredible. Their last album, Shaking the Habitual, is an indulgent mess with a few bright spots. I’d skip it.

The last line of the song is “I want to run my fingers up your pussy.”

Sure, I can live with that.

Nation of Millions is PE’s most important album, not Fear of a Black Planet, and it came out in ‘88. And their biggest song, “Fight the Power,” was originally released in ‘89 despite not being on a full-length until 1990.

Not true. I actually googled before I posted to make sure I wasn’t talking out of my ass, and most sources place hip-hop’s golden age as mid to late 80s. There are for sure sources that say it continued into early 90s, and I can appreciate that. Michael Eric Dyson defines it as 87 to 93.

Ugh. Of all the shit that Kinja forced on this once great community, the fact that gross comments like this one rise to the top is the absolute worst.

“As hip-hop entered its golden age throughout the early and mid-’90s”

Lana Wachowski indicated that she knew viewership numbers for Sense8, so I don’t think Netflix is withholding that information from their showrunners.

I’m reading this book now. There’s a scene with a peach that is, well, you’ll just have to read it.

It really doesn’t look like anything to do with the actual New Mutants comic book other than the character names and their abilities.

Blade Runner is easily the most sampled/referenced movie in the dark electronic music scene that includes industrial, EBM (Electronic Body Music), futurepop, aggrotech and whatever else the rivetheads are calling it these days. I suppose none of those bands make it onto WhoSampled, but they’d blow that 80 times number

It’s been out for 2 weeks, and it is incredible.

I kept waiting for the AV Club to mention this to no avail. The fact that the Juggalos and the Nazis are marching on DC at the same time is the punchline here.

Derffanny and that carrot cake line had me rolling... I had to pause the show to catch my breath.

I’m as surprised as anyone, but my most anticipated release this fall is that Gary Numan album. The three tracks I’ve heard from it have all been incredible, and I’m a sucker for concept albums.

I spent close to 30 minutes yesterday trying to connect my old Disqus account, and it was a circular nightmare. Sofuckit, I’ll just start over from scratch.
