So...I’ve been a special educator for many years and I have encountered many escalated, even violent children and I’ve never had to body slam or pepper spray any of them. There are official trainings on how to physically de-escalate a child in a way that doesn’t hurt them and in a way that treats them with dignity.…

A terrible scene with a small dose of schadenfreude: Once I saw a cop kneel on the back/shoulders of a black teen who snuck into my apartment building in the dead of winter because school required “off campus lunch” and he didn’t have money to go the local diner like the other kids.

I want people to watch this video and still try to say “Defund the Police” is too vague and not “good optics”. Defund the fucking Police.

Every single cop involved should be pepper-sprayed right before being fired and charged with assault.

They’re finally admitting it has nothing to do with fear for their lives. It’s 100% about control and expedience.

No doubt that this use of a chemical weapon was in retribution for the child threatening these police with the use of deadly disrespectful language after being handcuffed. 

It’s a tool for moronic bullies. Can’t figure out anything else to do, so they pepper spray and shoot.

Jfc. Thank you for the synopsis. These kinds of videos are way too triggering for me. I hope that child finds an adult actually willing to be on her side and give her the protection she needs. 

The hard thing is to show patience, compassion; taking your time

Our answer to most problems is “send in armed person(s) to (implicitly or explicitly) threaten to kill everyone until they cut it out.”  That may not always be the best solution.

Right ?!? How could ANYONE think that spraying a child directly in the eyes with pepper spray is ok no matter what the “protocols” are. The fact that she was already restrained with handcuffs in a police vehicle makes it even more ludicrous. 

Locust Club? That’s the name of the cop union? Locust? Like the plague in the Bible, Locust? Ok, sure.

This is an awful way to treat a child. But it would also be an awful way to treat an adult. Pepper spray shouldn’t be a tool that cops use because people are being uncooperative.

I’m sick of people who have absolutely all the power and authority over others saying that they had ‘no choice’ when explaining their despicable behavior.

OMFG! The cop matter-of-factly telling a 9 yo she’s going to get pepper sprayed in the eyeballs? How the fuck did you think that was going to de-escalate the situation? She’s handcuffed in the back of a cruiser surrounded by armed adults. SHE’S FUCKING 9!
