I went to a party today. Gave myself one hour, then I was allowed to leave. It was pleasant enough, but especially since I knew I would leave early. One hour isn’t so bad, just some stilted small talk and a glass of water. Still I’m exhausted. If you can arrange an exit for yourself like that, it’s a good idea. But…

I say look for the normal full time job, then apply to the dream jobs again. Or always apply for the dream jobs, but also seriously apply for the normal ones. I’m in a similar situation and can’t get a bite on either one. Boring is better than starving anyway.

Ooh I love GoPicnic (see Amazon). I usually bring fruit snacks, pretzels, Luna bars, French bread, poptarts, apple sauce, crackers, pickles, hummus, gummy worms, or olives depending on my taste. Some lifesaver mints might be good to keep on hand too.

Well there’s seasonal work. Party City or Spirit in the fall (Sept-Nov) for Halloween. Pretty much any retail for Thanksgiving-Christmas. Summer at the park district or theme park. Any holiday time at edible arrangements or a florist. Libraries offer few hours, pretty flexible. Being Santa, Easter bunny, etc.

I’m very excited about Christmas too. We don’t do anything really special, but I just love all the lights and decorations.

Congrats on getting away! As for work, I suggest checking with your local library for circulation (checkout desk) or shelving/page positions. In my experience, libraries are pretty flexible with scheduling too.
