Because the Crusader Kings games up to this point had been sort of odd compared with their Paradox developed brethren in not allowing you to play as every country available, so I like this move.

As someone with quite a bit of experience with FM and some with CK, I don't think you'd have any problems playing the latter. You will probably lose your first game as you adjust to how the Paradox games work, but I got fired from my first FM coaching job, and that was just the cost of learning how to play the game.

There is a book called Soccernomics, which is like a blend of Moneyball and Freakonomics which basically had the premise in one of the chapters that if an owner treated a team like a business, the team generally did worse than if they treated it like a toy/indulgence.
