Movie studios used to jump at the opportunity to showcase a Broadway star on film. It doesn’t seem like that happens nowadays, and it’s affecting the quality of musicals (and film in general) and limiting the talent pool to a handful of people with a proven track record.

“Rewrite the Stars” is a GREAT scene in an otherwise terrible movie. Everything comes together for 4 and a half minutes (give or take some AutoTune).

Seems appropriate...

Jesus. I’m glad he’s okay.

Saddened to hear this. Legrand was one of my favorite composers. The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg is one of the most beautiful film scores ever, and his songs as interpreted by Barbra Streisand (“Between Yesterday And Tomorrow,” “The Summer Knows”) and Dusty Springfield (“The Windmills Of Your Mind” and “What Are You Doing

Upvoted for Cassingle™.

At Christmas, my husband and I were in Nashville and went to Opryland. Over the speakers, I heard a version of “Groove Is In The Heart” that didn’t have Q-Tip’s rap or Bootsy Collins. Apparently that was a thing in Tennessee.

THE. GREATEST. ABBA SONG. EVER.

The first Deee-Lite album is a stone cold classic. All killer, no filler.

“More Than This” is one of the most perfectly produced songs. Everything about it gives me endless chills when I’m listening to it.

Played this as part of our wedding dance. The sparkle in your eyes/Keeps me alive” is such a simple but beautiful declaration of how much someone can mean to you.

“SOS”

The Americans utilized this in an amazing way (as they did a lot of 80s music cues).

But...1989 was not the first time the Oscars were without an official host. The article says that the 2019 ceremony would “only be the second time that has ever happened”—which is not historically accurate. The Oscars have been without an official host 5 times which is what I was pointing out.

Oof.

Same. I missed the film in theatrical release (I’ve lost both my horror movie buddies and my husband does not like horror movies), but I just listened to “Unmade” and, holy shit, that’s good!

+1 for such a specific—and correct!—Jedi reference.

Sad to hear we won’t be getting that Steve McQueen musical next.
