Once I realized that turkeys are trying to take you with them into the afterlife, I decided that no way was I going to cook one unless life and limb depended on it. My aunt used to cook the turkey for holidays, and her rule was that nobody got to eat until the dinner since she had slaved and basted the thing for hours.
