Here’s a proposition, why not take your toxic cynicism and shove it up your ass?

In Europe we consider them “Far-Right”. The US is just so desensitived and fucked politically that Far-Right is sometimes merely a step from your version of “centrist”
Suggestion - stop calling it “far-right” and just call it “right wing”. The guy’s manifesto isn’t any different from what a Fox News or right wing Twitter personality would say on a regular basis.
Doesn’t he literally address this in his statement? This situation is not the caster’s faults, nor should they be forced to shoulder the burden of their employers’ sins. But, in this case, while yes, he has the means to be comfortable in making this decision, his choice to publicly divest in this fashion is still a…
Oh, right, I forgot that doing good doesn’t count if you have means.
Wow. Never thought of it like that. Totally invalidates every single point. China is SO KEWL!
Exactly. People can argue all they want about whether or not Blizzard was justified in penalizing the player, and if the penalty itself went too far, but Blizzard cutting ties with the commentators who literally hid under a desk so as not to be associated with the statement really says all that needs to be sad.…
The heavy-handedness of it feels like someone insisted that Blizzard make an example of Blitzchung, not only to discourage others from similar acts in the future but also to appease those upset by the outburst itself.
“I will not be a smiling face on camera that tacitly endorses this decision.”
I really like the way he put this.
And in case you want to boycott companies that Tencent puts money into: https://www.pcgamer.com/every-game-company-that-tencent-has-invested-in/
The point you touch on by saying ‘developers insist their games are apolitical’: nothing on this planet is apolitical, and to insist otherwise is to show ignorance and privilege.
Rush(the band to be clear) made this point well long ago. “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”
Ah, there’s nothing we can do so we should just let it happen argument. That’s my favorite argument. Why outlaw murder? People will get murdered anyway. Why get out of bed tomorrow, we’re all going to end up in the cold hard ground.
It’s a misstep from a decent human being standpoint, not a business one (in the short term anyway).
Ultimately, everything is political. I forget who actually said it, but the aphorism that we do not have to take an interest in politics for politics to take an interest in us is absolutely true—and it’s of vital importance to the present situation.
More importantly, Acti-Blizz (and the NBA, and South Park) took a…
Game companies shouldn’t be bending over backwards to support authoritarian regimes which are abusing people. I’m kind of bewildered that’s become a mildly controversial statement to make.
Neutrality is a political stance, even if they pretend it isn’t.
Wait, what American political costs? It’s not like there’s a crime Blizzard can be charged with, I don’t really see what the US govt could do here.
Wow! This is morally reprehensible beyond belief. There’s merit in trying to protect your commercial interests, but that merit stops when you’re defending an oppressive regime and punishing individuals for standing up to it. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how good a business move is to pander to the Chinese while…
This reeks of Fear Of Missing Out (of the Chinese market)
Simple business strategy. you need to make more profit every year, otherwise the shareholders will dump you. China is now that possibility for expansion, so every company does whatever it needs to, to please their future customers.
