Mercy is the Germanic kind of Swiss, who would be descended from the Alemanni, Swabian, and (historical) Alsatians. They brought with them their paganism before it was replaced with Christianity.

1: “Valkyrie” is the name of the flight suit she wears.

I’ve never played Overwatch (I simply don’t like competitive PvP games), but their world building is so impressive.

In French, nearly every noun (very few exceptions, like “amour” (love)) is assigned a gender. This leads to all kind of hilarity when your learn the language or converse with someone who has not memorized every noun’s gender.

This! Aside from pronouns (does French have any gender neutral pronouns yet?), I fail to see how a student’s gender has anything to do with teaching said student.

punishing teachers who identify students based on their “biological sex,”

Seems like that’s the vogue, at least in most Christian circles, these days.

It’s not even to that level! All this teacher needed to do was take the effort to NOT use a pronoun (regardless as to which the student identified as) and could have easily just used the student’s name. Instead, the teacher actively tried to be an asshole.

I had a teacher continuously call me Nicole because he refused to believe that my actual name was Nico and that it wasn’t short for Nicole. He then would try to write me up when I didn’t respond to the name. Thankfully, the principal had my back and told him to cut that shit out.

I love how some teachers get so drunk on the power they have over their students, that they think rules don’t apply to them.

Just ugly. I mean, how is this any different than a teacher simply arguing, “Well you *look* like a girl, therefore I’m calling you she/her.” All these religious reasons people cite as justification to be cruel and callous and exclusionary.

I mean, it’s pretty on-brand for an American teacher of the French language to be linguistically pedantic and a religious bigot in equal measures.

“I bullied a child, and you told me not to, which violates my rights.” Yeah, no.

I’ve never read it, but I assume there are several chapters devoted to the subject. Along with entire sections adressing the moral perils of homosexuality, hip hop, and zippers. It’s not like these people would just make shit up to justify their bigotry.

Is his religion being an asshole?

The knots that people contort themselves to avoid a simple request (“refer to me by x, please”) never fail to amaze me.

If you had a student with a very ethnic name, then out of laziness or racism you instead called them “oogabooga” even after being told by administration to knock it off and call them by their name, you’d get fired too.

The considerable and voluminous body of Jesus’ teachings regarding the rigid and binary nature of gender (I mean, he was obsessed, did he talk about anything else?!) were transmitted second hand by the gospels. Accordingly, this asshole’s complaint is denied, and probably treasonous.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaa I was fired for being a gargantuan asshole to someone I’m supposed to educate and enrich, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
