I definitely agree (and understand) that I will never, ever experience what it is like to not be white. I cannot comprehend it on any level.

I said this in another thread, but I would like your perspective on it, if you don't mind.
But we're on the internet. I don't have a way to show you who I am and what I'm about. All I have is my words.
Saying that men oppress women (implying active and perhaps even intentional oppression) is not the same thing as saying that men benefit from sexism, though.
But doesn't the statement "we're not all the same" (implying that some white people do care, contradicting the earlier comment) mean that the poster is conscious of the benefits that being white has given them? And being aware is the first requirement to helping fight inequality, which, by definition, means that that…
That's the big problem. If you've got a cast that is so strikingly unbalanced like the Cell is, everybody notices and walks out feeling like they've got their shoes on the wrong foot. Very frustrating.
I still maintain JLo was the reason Cell felt weird. It was so one-sided, putting her up against D'onfrio who is a powerhouse when it comes to that kind of roles.
But again, it's performative and can be used to mock the people who live with the reality she's not even pretending to understand. You really think that the average Today show viewer is watching this thinking "wow, I should really reconsider how I feel about trans people"?
This could just be something we're not going to agree on, but she's not trans. She can walk away from this new identity at any time. Trans people (as you know) cannot. She's playing at being trans/genderqueer/genderfluid/whatever.
I'm just really confused as to why you think this is a nice turn of events. It's a cis woman (who is likely straight), using genderbending to get attention in a way that an actually genderfluid or trans person probably couldn't...she's turning it into a spectacle instead of considering how this impacts the community…
I know what you meant by GB, I should have articulated myself better.
You're right. What I'm saying is I'd prefer more actually trans or genderqueer models, instead of a conventionally attractive, previously hired model whose career is flagging and she uses genderbending to get attention.
Yeah, but she's not trans or even genderqueer (according to the interviews she's given). It feels like appropriation to me.
If anyone here hasn't watched "Hey, Boo" on Netflix, they really should. It's an amazing doc about Lee and the book (and the movie) and I keep rewatching it almost monthly. Really cool.
A quick Google says it's still in place. I knew about NJ because (being from Chicago) when I drove through the state years ago on my way to Boston I got yelled at for trying to do it myself, but Oregon surprised me, I think. I guess Portland is just too weird to be trusted with petroleum.
I want to hug you and smack his parents. So hard. SO HARD.
Seriously though. Nozzle. Hole. It stops automatically when it's done. How is that not like hetero sex?
I should have specified: born and raised in Ohio, went to school 45 minutes away from home.
