I’m in FinTech on the east coast and I hardly ever have to OT grind outside of maybe one or two weeks a year, and it’s paid. When the product you make isn’t that complicated and the people who use it pay out the ass for it conditions can be pretty good.

This, I like my day dev cause it’s mostly chill and I’m not emotionally invested in the product, it’s just fun to tinker around and work with other people towards a larger goal that pays the bills. I seriously thought about game dev early on and I am so glad I didn’t.
