Had a friend in med school who had a sizable Native American scholarship. I forget what percentage of his ancestry was NA, but he was from Texas and incredibly white. Also had plenty of dough since dad was a doctor. We didn’t begrudge him though because he was a great guy and he was just utilizing the system already…

Perhaps in 1998 it was different but when you take the MCATs you have to register your exactly as it is on a government issued ID and you have to bring the ID with you.

I actually initially missed out on a spot in med school in New Zealand because of a Maori and Pacific islander admission scheme programme they had. So I was placed on the waiting list but got into a med school in Australia. I have no regrets about that because I understand the need to have Maori and Pacific Islanders…

what Kaling’s brother is wrong about (among many things) is that many black people who are qualified to get into a university are rejected because most universities will never let blacks studying there exceed 33-34%. So like - you need to be a child genius or you have to write an essay about how your uncle was killed…
