Sslasher movies were inspired by Italian giallo films. So they both predate Reagan and did not originate in the US. They were definitely not born as a response to Reaganism, not lord were they anti-promiscuity. Did some have those themes? Of course. Was the genre as a whole borne out of those ideas?
