Maybe for a few shots (but that was true in FURY ROAD, too). But given the cgi-free chase scene earlier in the film, I can totally accept they used a lot of real driving.
(and to be fair, it's not like the earlier Indy films didn't make a lot of use of special effects augmented stunts, like the jeep over the cliff in

Not that unlike the books, really; Fleming liked to mix it up to keep it fresh.

Well, the thing is, Lucas' stories were inspired by stuff from cheap b-movies, but Spielberg's directing was inspired by big budget old-school Hollywood.

I think the reason people complain about the fridge is because it was the first real misstep in a film that seemed to be getting it right up to that point. (And it's really no worse than the raft bit in TOD)

I think that reference in CRYSTAL SKULL was just to his wartime activities (which would make sense, given his relationship with the Nazis and his WW1 experience). He's CLEARLY kind of in the government's bad books when the CIA guys question him (and only gets out of it because of his war record)

Technically, Spielberg's contract was for five films, so I think they HAVE to ask him.
That said, it's definitely no sure thing he'd say yes. (if he DID say yes, it would probably be for the same reason he says he came back for LAST CRUSADE- he was personally unsatisfied with the previous film, and wanted to improve

And people can't even agree which of those two they like! (cue the long-running "TOD vs, LC" debate)

The idea of an Indiana Jones movie where George Lucas isn't calling the shots, and Spielberg gets to do it all HIS way has a certain appeal.

Apparently, most of the stuff with vehicles was live-action- but they digitally added in the jungle around them.
It's the kind of thing that George Miller made look great in FURY ROAD- but replacing ramps and safety equipment with desert and sand is a LOT easier than sticking in trees and bushes.

Indy's a lot less like Bond than people think.
A big part of his appeal is that he ISN'T a super-suave lady-killer who takes orders from the government and has access to unlimited gadgets, but a more rough-and-tumble guy who follows his gut instincts and has to figure things out.

Frankly, I'd like to have seen him fight someone else in LAST CRUSADE. You only make three films, you shouldn't be going back to the well that soon.

Connery has said that he was really, really tempted to do it because he loved working on LAST CRUSADE- but he needed to make it clear he was officially retired from films.
I think it was the right decision. LOEG was a lousy movie to go out on, but Connery himself still looked vital and strong in it. A good image to

Marion was there to establish that Mutt really was Indy's kid.
And we STILL didn't believe it.

They fudged it by a decade LAST time (heck, technically they fudged his age for TOD and LS, too).

"Indy, this order comes straight from the top- President Gerald Ford himself!"

Yeah, it's weird to say that only Harrison Ford can play a role a bunch of other guys have already played.

The problem isn't that all cops are bad; it's that they obligingly draw a curtain around the ones who are.
The Thin Blue Line ENABLES.
