Disney merchandises the hell out of EVERYTHING, and this was really, really toy friendly.

In another movie, the "cameo" would have seemed like a COMMENT on this kind of "cameo": it's never going to be anything BUT a recording of a dead guy, no matter HOW much they manipulate it.
