This is my first time interacting with Kinja. Now I see why everyone hates it so. Frankly, I’m not even sure my Discus account was linked, or what. It was all very non-specific. I’m basically just writing this to see if I’m a gray or not.

If you ever find yourself on the opposite end of Alabama — down on the beach in Gulf Shores — stop by Hog Wild BBQ. Their white sauce is even better than Big Bob Gibson's, and their chickens are barbecued THEN deep fried because 'Murica.
Huh. I had no idea. You learn something new every day!
Two things took me out of this episode, but made me laugh so much I didn't mind the jolt. During the scene with the oil guy and Kim, he referred to his oil in "gallons" instead of "barrels". Kind of an odd oversight for a series that gets so many details just perfect. Then the same oilman, as he was driving off,…
There's been some comments in previous reviews about the little things that can take a person out of the moment during this show, and two of them hit me right in the head during this episode. First and foremost… I keep obsessing about the phones' battery life situation. The way some of the inmates are staying active…
OK that doesn't actually explain the mechanics of how a charged battery can emit electromagnetic radiation. It's literally the only thing they list that does not also radiate RF energy of some kind. Which is why I call BS on it. In fact while doing some cursory research I didn't find anything of any scientific…
This was a great episode and it was such a pleasure watching Chuck get the tables turned on him. One thing that bugged me about the cell phone ploy was that a battery, charged or not, shouldn't emit any RF or EMF on its own because it's basically inert. If there really was some type of EMF sensitivity and Chuck…
Sweet Dee is on the right track, I believe. If you still have access to the episode, turn on the closed captioning. I watched it with the CC on and it printed out what she said in French. You can always run it through a translator. I'd check but I already deleted the episode from the DVR.
Can't we agree that people who like either of these places are living a horrible, sad food lie? Where's the place for those of us who like real Mexican food from real Mexican restaurants run by real Mexican families? It's not like it costs all that much more than these other places, but the quality is almost always…
I think it would do well if someone could get the series on one of the streaming services like Netflix or Crackle. It would probably be a licensing nightmare, though, like old episodes of MST3k and the "period music"-stripped episodes of Daria that air on MTV Classics, which I have been thoroughly enjoying anyway.
Oh jeez, I'd forgotten all about that. And the related "caption" thing on the Sci-Fi channel website that let people caption still images from the actual network feed.
The only one I remember in my old hometown of Birmingham was on the east side of town near the (now defunct) Century Plaza. It's apparently now a Lovelady Thrift Store. The exterior has not changed a bit except for signage, but the interior looks completely different. There was also one in Hoover, just north of 459…
I would totally buy the album that had that PSA music playing at half speed. That was awesome.
Me, too… and I'd argue that the problem is actually worse today because now it's the opposite problem, with people stretching 4:3 content to fill the widescreen. It's the exact same argument, too: "I paid for this newfangled TV so I want to see all of it used." Not to mention the sizable handful of myrmidons I've…
Like hell we didn't notice. OK, *I* didn't notice. I spent many nights a few years ago in a hospital with shit wifi and noticed that it was still a clearer picture on their wifi than my Verizon service, which was a full strength signal on the AWS LTE band, which is the faster of the two LTW bands that Verizon uses. …
DVR, 30-second skip. I usually didn't miss much of importance coming back from a break.
You're absolutely right about high fidelity, but some of that is the fault of the mastering that's done where everything is clipped to high hell and 100% loud from start to finish. Every modern pop and electronic album seems to be that way, and country and other formats seem to be heading that way as well.
I think tatere's comment is more about streaming services, which is where the most growth seems to be right now. Your purchased tunes are safe as long as you own them, but streamed music is subject to the whims of whatever licensing agreements are in place. I can foresee a time when music comes and goes from Pandora…
I've got it on my watch list but I'm hesitant to start the season since all the BBC stuff has the dreaded "enjoy until February 1st" banner on. And so far the internet freak out that has come from Netflix threatening to remove old Who episodes has yielded a ton of "relax it's not going anywhere" replies, all linking…
Bandwidth in the developed world is a cheap commodity. It's why you can host a webpage these days with unlimited bandwidth for as little as $5/month. If they can sell personal page sites to people that cheap, you know Apple and Google and Amazon are paying pennies on the terabyte.
