I know exactly what you mean, but the manual ingrains what I said at a subconscious / automatic / instinctive level. For example, in an auto you probably know what speed and rpms you are at in the middle gears without looking at gauges. 

It’s kind of the default, so your decision to go against the grain can be easily forgotten, and it is an absolute blur once the kid starts coming out.
