Young Miles looks like John Legend cloned himself, you’re right! Is parthenogenesis even possible in creatures that lack ovaries? All I know about parthenogenesis is that 100-year-old python or however old that did it recently, and from the godawful “Godzilla” remake. SPOILER ALERT:

Another example is David Foster Wallace. He wasn’t the superstar Anne Rice was when his publisher was trying to get Infinite Jest out the door and he fought over every comma, every footnote, every digressive footnote to the footnote. Endless additions and revisions. My hardcover edition of Infinite Jest runs to 1200

That was another “design element.” We used to have black towels that were amazing. After a decade of use they looked and felt like we’d bought them within the last week. But the bathroom is now white-on-white-on-white. I will go no further.

That mural is the stuff of nightmares. Which direction will the out-of-control truck come from and take them out, fore or aft?

My sainted MIL was one of the auntiest aunts who ever lived. She was the oldest of nine and born in the Depression so she was mothering siblings when she was child herself. She was a public schoolteacher (so not in scrubs but public schoolteaching is an even auntier occupation, I think) and faithful churchgoer. She

Much as I dislike Susan Sarandon the political gadfly her work playing Bette Davis in “Feud” was absolutely outstanding.

Exactly. I liked “500 Days” because back then Jezebel had hundreds of commenters and it turned into a daily free-association session. To focus on someone so innocuous as Kristen Calamari or whatever her name is was genius. Say she was spotted at a beach. People would chime in with beach stories, embarrassing beach

Oh yes! Especially stuff from the Memphis Group and the knock-offs that were everywhere in the 1980s. At the time it seemed like everyone’s new apartment had something that would have been at home in Pee-wee’s Playhouse. Arquitectonica was good for this too, but much less exuberant.

They could do a spin-off where it shows them “working.” Cajoling gossip rags and setting up paparazzi shots, busily running a cosmetics empire, using legal skills to advocate for social justice, runway work. That should be good for four TikTok videos at least.

It was around £3 million, or $4.3 million. Close enough for Jezebel work.

I know exactly what you mean. Whenever any of my dogs has ever done something especially mystifying I always think, “I would love to spend five minutes inside my dog’s brain BUT NOT ONE SECOND MORE.”

I, a fellow gray, was going to chime in and say exactly that. Readers might have heard of a place called Rochester, NY? Kodak? In the news lately? Population just over 200,000 and declining with every passing week.

The absurdity of the SNAP rules were brought home to me a few years ago. I used to go to this wonderful, cheap, cheerful deli (gone, of course, pushed out by real estate speculation.) People would buy a roll or a hero, 1/4 lb. meat, 1/4 lb. cheese, and the nice guy behind the counter would give them a little cup of

I think that’s what I like about him too. For the Empire Report he’ll say that he called someone for their thoughts on whatever, or he’ll reminisce about Mario Cuomo, who’s dead now and left the governorship in 1994. But the Great Barrington stuff is a healing balm. Traffic has returned and parking is once again

Do you read “The Berkshire Eagle”? I do, sort of, for a strange reason. There’s a guy named Chartoff who is somehow deeply connected to The Empire Report, a website aggregator about New York State, where I live. He also has a column in the “Eagle” and they print that too. I like reading his column because he makes

My favorite factoid about Bob Woodward is that he has a daughter named Taliesin, as in the Frank Lloyd Wright studio. I wonder if anyone was ever named Bauhaus.

I think the grandmother is Andrea Martin and this is a skit from MadTV that was cut for time.

This really doesn’t matter but I have 6 siblings. All 7 of us coupled off with the people we’d spend the rest of our lives with at 22. My youngest sibling is 55. We lived in the metropolitan northeast, not a small rural community. It worked for us and we understood the consequences of our actions.

More Coquilles St. Jacques for me! But talk about rich. Maybe I’ll make that on Friday, it’s simpler than it looks. We’ve been having strange spot shortages of cheese for some reason, and gruyère was not to be had for a while. Then it was back. Wish us luck.
